M
iddleburg Museum is committed to preserving and celebrating our multicultural local heritage in a comprehensive manner through the collection, preservation, and display of historical artifacts, the hosting of mission-focused museum events, and outreach to the community, while also encouraging the preservation of our historic landscape and the appreciation of the role of Middleburg and the surrounding area in our nation’s history.
We are a museum, a visitor center, and a place for all members of the community to share with each other, and visitors alike, the history of the town of Middleburg, the villages nearby, and the farmland of Fauquier and Loudoun counties surrounding us. Our scope covers the area from Aldie to Paris and Lincoln to Marshall -- a 10-mile radius from the heart of Middleburg where our museum stands.
We want to build awareness, to inspire, and to engage visitors through exhibits and events that showcase our history and the cultural significance of our community. In fact, community is at the core of our mission: sharing the stories of the social and geographical communities in our history, connecting past events to present community concerns, and identifying the past and current practices that will have an impact on our area in the future.
We would like to address the many shared histories, interests, and values that hold our community together, for example: the history of native Americans who inhabited the area; the history of African Americans in the community; the Goose Creek watershed environment; the Revolutionary and Civil Wars; the Horse and Hunt history and its effect on the economy, and agriculture of the area; local viticulture; the social connections of schools, church, and sports; and the conservation and preservation of the historic landscape.
